Michael Jackson and a New Era of Info

MJ1

It feels we have experienced a shift in recent months.

I wonder what percentage of people learned about the death of Michael Jackson through social media versus watching the news on TV?

Not only has the way we get information changed,  I think the way we process and mourn is changing. Communally we express ourselves and are simultaneously able to see the reaction of the world.

Some interesting information I read today:

  • On Thursday, at least 30% of all tweets were about Michael Jackson.
  • Google saw one of the largest spikes in search inquiries in their history — so many, they thought they may be under some kind of hackers attack.
  • Michael Jackson’s albums are dominating the iTunes Store and Amazon.

Michael Jackson and the recent Iran election are huge examples that we are currently experiencing a new era of information.
