Accidental Parachurch Ministries
![]()
I’m liking the talk in Chuck Bomar’s workshop about helping college age-stage people connect more with church life than they do with church programs. In sharing his own story, Chuck said if he was honest, he at one time “created a parachurch ministry that existed on a church campus.”
I’ve never heard anybody say it this way before, but it resonated with me. I think when we segment out age groups and only create an age-based program for them to attend, this is a danger. We’ll have segments of the church that feel more like parachurch ministries disconnected from actual church life.
The question for many of our local churches entrenched in this approach is how do we transition? How do we take groups within our churches that we’ve segmented out (children, students, college age-stage), and help them join the whole of the body?

Dang. That’s something to think about. That’s a thought to do something about. I’m going to share it in the next 24 hours. Thanks.

I love this thought, and so wish i was there to hear from Chuck. I’m currently working on this idea for our church (Church life vs. Church Program) do programs create disciple or does living life in the body of Christ allowing the spirit to shape do it
hope to hear more from you guys in this
