Donald Miller: Is Church Life Stifling Your Creativity?

(Number 32 – Jackson Pollock, 1950)

Such a great post from Donald Miller last week about how artists in the church can confuse what God wants with what the church wants.

It reminded me in some ways of some of the thoughts of Frankie Schaeffer I was introduced to in college. I’m torn because I believe the church can and should be a place for artists to discover and cultivate their artistic voice. On the other hand, so few churches seem to actually foster artists unless their art is useful to the church. And, as Donald Miller points out, there’s now an added layer: is this art useful to Evangelicalism?

What churches are you aware of that are fostering communities of artists, whether or not that art is being used in the church? How are they doing it?
