A New Liturgy

Posted in creativity on 01/30/2012 by mark novelli

I just spent some time listening to A New Liturgy (no. 1 & 2) by Aaron Niequist.

I’ve had the privilege to work on a church staff with Aaron and serve with him in several conference and retreat settings. I’ve always appreciated the thoughtful and creative approach that he takes to leading worship gatherings.

Aaron is among the best that I have encountered at crafting deeply thought through experiences that weave together music, prayers and passages. I think that A New Liturgy pushes us to think about worship as something more than a song set.

As I listened, I felt called to slow down, be present, and engage with God. I appreciated the deep threads that run through each of these liturgies. I’m excited for others to have a similar experience as they listen. I’m also excited for those who plan worship gatherings to be inspired to create their own New Liturgies!.

Are we trying to fit old things into the new form?

Interesting thoughts from Marshall McLuhan.

“When any new form comes into the foreground of things, we naturally look at it through the old stereos. We can’t help that. This is normal, and we’re still trying to see how will our previous forms of political and educational patterns persist under television. We’re just trying to fit the old things into the new form, instead of asking what is the new form going to do to all the assumptions we had before.”

How might this apply to the internet? To the way we gather?

Is Social Media Ruining Our Minds?

Posted in technology, Uncategorized on 01/21/2012 by mark novelli

I found this intereseting infographic about effects of Social Media. I believe that there are some huge changes going on in us as a result of social media. I have noticed a change in myself. I am not sure about some of the validity of the statistics on this infographic, but it certainly raises some good discussion. What do you think?
